Children's Privacy Notice

ThinkQuest Kids is designed for children aged 7–12 and is managed through a parent or guardian account.

We aim to collect as little information about children as we reasonably need to provide and save their learning experience.

Before a new parent account creates its first child profile under the current ThinkQuest Kids flow, the parent or guardian is shown a Parent or Guardian Consent notice.

The notice explains the limited information ThinkQuest Kids will store about the child's profile and learning progress.

The parent or guardian must confirm:

“I am the parent or legal guardian and I consent to ThinkQuest Kids collecting and using this information to provide the learning service.”

The first child profile cannot be created through the normal current flow until this consent has been recorded.

ThinkQuest Kids keeps a record of the consent, including information such as the consent version and the date and time it was provided.

A parent or guardian may provide:

• a nickname;
• age range; and
• a predefined avatar choice.

We encourage families to use a nickname rather than the child's real name.

The app may also save profile settings such as selected cosmetics, unlocks and introduction markers.

When a child uses ThinkQuest Kids, we save learning progress so they can continue where they left off.

This may include:

• completed levels and missions;
• stars and badges;
• puzzle-attempt totals;
• mistakes and hints used;
• Mystery Mission progress;
• Daily Brain Byte progress;
• milestones;
• unlocks;
• progression markers; and
• selected or unlocked profile items.

These learning records generally use the child's internal profile ID rather than repeatedly storing the child's nickname or the parent's email address.

The current ThinkQuest Kids child-profile flow does not ask children to provide their:

• full name;
• exact date of birth;
• personal email address;
• phone number;
• school;
• photograph;
• precise location;
• social-media information; or
• open-ended personal profile information.

Children do not create or manage parent accounts themselves.

Child profiles and learning progress are stored using cloud-based application and backend services used to operate ThinkQuest Kids.

Some temporary preferences and display information may also be stored in the browser.

Public media storage used for app artwork, backgrounds and sound files is separate from child-profile and learning-progress data.

A child profile is associated with the parent or guardian account that created it.

ThinkQuest Kids does not provide public child profiles.

Another family should not be able to view a child's profile or learning progress through the normal service.

ThinkQuest Kids does not sell children's personal information.

We do not use child-profile information for targeted advertising.

Marketing communications about ThinkQuest Kids are directed to parents and guardians rather than children.

Parents and guardians can manage child profiles through the parent area of ThinkQuest Kids.

Parents may review or update profile information and can use the supported deletion process to remove a child profile.

When a child profile is deleted, its associated active learning records are intended to be removed through the deletion process.

Limited security, legal, consent, support, deletion-operation or backup records may remain temporarily where reasonably necessary.

The technology used to operate ThinkQuest Kids may process limited technical and security information necessary to run and protect the service.

This may include:

• internal profile identifiers;
• timestamps;
• authentication information;
• security records; and
• operational logs.

ThinkQuest Kids does not actively store a child's device model, browser name, photograph or precise location as part of the child profile.
